Should You Draw Your Own Company Logo?
Did you ever look at a company logo and think you would have done a better job designing it? How talented would you say you are when it comes to drawing? Do you manage your own locksmithing company or you're involved in any other type of trade under the sun? Then you most definitely need the right kind of advertising, branding, targeting, and logo. A logo is a powerful tool that can significantly propel any service or product in ways other marketing tools cannot propel it. That is, as long as it is professionally looking and well-inspired. The opposite of that, of course, will trigger the opposite effect. While most people believe they are able to create an awesome looking logo on their own, the truth is not everyone can do it.
However, this does not mean that this is not a process that can be learned in time. Here are a few reasons why you should seriously consider designing your own logo – let's tale the example of a locksmithing company.
Brainstorm Your Locksmith Business Logo
If you are a noob, try not to go straight to your computer, open Photoshop and start working on your logo. You might be tempted to start playing with filters; sure, it's fun and exciting, and it can go on forever unless you know exactly what you have in mind and are not shooting blinds.
You need a logo design that is thoughtful, logical, self-explanatory, smart, creative, and easy to recognize. You want people to see your vans in the street and know they belong to you. And you want them to associate your logo with high quality services. This is the kind of bond or association you need to be able to create with the help of your logo.
Gather your most loyal employees around. Set up a brainstorming session with them. Take a look at your locksmith website and write down the first 10 words that come to your mind when you look at it.
Try to walk into plain website visitors' shoes for a while; picture you've just reached the landing page for the first time in your life, and you have no idea what your company does.
Describe the feeling you would like for your logo to impart. It can be something simple, or something more complex. Since you are providing locksmithing services, you need people to receive a straight and simple message: you can fix/install/re-key their home/car/office locks fast and easy. Your logo should express this, along with the reliability of your service.
Start Sketching
Doodle anything that comes to mind during this process. Do it in the most natural process possible.
Get rid of those sketches that seem inappropriate or unsuitable for your needs and ideas.
Next, transfer your drawings into your computer. Start working with vector drawing software you can find online.
Since you will be personally creating your logo and deciding upon its relevancy and effectiveness, you will feel a lot more powerful and determined to capture the entire essence of your business into it. And, chances are, you will come out with flying colors out of the process.
